Pastor Buegler admonishes us with the sermon: “If You’re Going To Walk On Water…You Have To Get Out Of The Boat!” He reminds us from Romans 10 and Matthew 14 that faith is essential and that it is indeed active and living.
Sermon Discussion Questions: Romans 10:5-17 and Matthew 14:22-33
1. If you’re going to walk on water you have to get out of the boat. Can you think of a time when you acted in a way that was based on faith more than logic?
2. Isn’t it interesting that Peter did indeed walk on water as long as he focused on Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves and the storm (and took his focus off Jesus) he sunk. There’s an old gospel hymn that goes like this: “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face and the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” Think about some ways we can keep our focus on Jesus....especially in the storms of life.
3. At the end of this miracle we read, “they worshipped Him”. We don’t know what that looked like. But even if it was a simple “We praise You, O Lord” it should teach us a lesson in daily living. What are some ways we “worship” the Lord that have nothing to do with going to church?
4. Why does Paul use the language from Isaiah about how “beautiful are the feet of those who speak the Gospel”? Is it because the feet determine where the rest of us go to? Doesn’t it imply we need to MOVE? Just sitting doesn’t utilize our feet. Just sitting doesn’t grow the Kingdom. Our feet “on the move” is why they are beautiful.
