This week we focus on Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus and also on Trinity Sunday. Nicodemus gets really confused about being “born again”. We get really confused when we try to comprehend how the Trinity works! We will focus on Jesus’s teaching in John 3 and how even though we can’t know everything, we know everything that we need to know from the way the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have made themselves known to us personally through the work of the cross, empty tomb, and bringing us to faith by Word and Sacrament.
Have you ever been a confused Christian?
John 3:1-9
Nicodemus and Jesus have a confusing conversation surrounding the Greek word ἄνωθεν (anothen).
One way to summarize Jesus’ teaching:
If you are only born once, you will die twice.
But if you are born twice, you only die once.
John 3:10-12
Confusion is not just frustrating. It can also be dangerous.
John 3:13-17
We will never fully understand everything, but what we need to know is clear in Jesus.
